Lead SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) Nurse Band 8a

The post holder will take the lead to ensure delivery of a high quality, safe and effective SACT services across Oncology & Haematology Services and ensure compliance with National Cancer Peer review standards. The post holder will work closely with the Consultant Clinical Lead for SACT, Consultant Pharmacist and the Senior Management Team (SMT) within Oncology and Haematology to achieve this. The post holder will be visible and accessible, providing clinical expertise, professional leadership and education in the field of the Oncology/Haematology SACT service. The SACT Lead Nurse will oversee patient care ensuring that nursing and corporate standards are implemented, maintained, monitored and improved upon where necessary.


Responsibilities

* Provide expertise in clinical practice to support patients throughout their SACT journey. To work clinically alongside nurses and be a visible and accessible leader.
* Provide leadership and vision to ensure a high quality co-ordinated service for patients requiring SACT. This will include supporting the further development of SACT services within the hospital and community.
* In joint collaboration with the SMT, leads within medical and pharmacy to oversee the strategic development of SACT services, ensuring consultation with key personnel to secure resources to maintain the viability and accreditation of the SACT service
* Is a core member and Deputy Chair of the WHSCT SACT Committee.


Skills and Qualifications

* Registered Nurse Adult level 1, on the live Nursing and Midwifery Council register.
* Be competent in venepuncture, cannulation, administration of IV drugs and blood products.
* Competent in management and care of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs).
* Have undertaken and successfully completed the Administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies stand along module or equivalent or willing to undertake and complete within 18 months of taking up post.
* Competent in the administration of SACT at level 3A including successfully undertake a yearly multiple choice test and assessment.
* Educated to Masters level in a health related subject OR Willing to undertake MSc in Nursing or health related subject and complete within 3 years of taking up post.
* 3 years post registration nursing experience in a Haematology and/ or Oncology environment.
* 2 years’ experience at Band 7 within an Oncology and/ or Haematology environment.
* Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car is essential.
* This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
