The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire. From transport to housing, from business growth to skills, the MCA has a great story to tell. We have ambitions to deliver recovery and renewal for people, businesses and places across South Yorkshire.

Please note that SYMCA follows a structured salary grading system for all roles, and the offered salary for each post will be at the starting point within the specified grade. We value the skills and experience of potential candidates, and there will be opportunities for salary enhancements as you grow within South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is currently in the process of reviewing its terms and conditions of employment including pay and grading. As part of this project, the post advertised may be subject to changes in the near future. All changes and any impact on individual posts will be discussed further should you be successfully appointed to the position you have applied for.

Key Responsibilities

Are you a highly organised professional with a passion for public service and a flair for managing complex schedules? The South Yorkshire Mayor’s Office is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Diary Manager to support the Mayor and senior leadership team in delivering their strategic priorities across the region.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of regional decision-making, supporting a Mayor who is driving change and championing communities. You’ll be part of a passionate, collaborative team making a real difference.

As Diary Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of the Mayor’s day-to-day engagements. You’ll be responsible for managing a dynamic and high-profile schedule, coordinating meetings with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring the Mayor is fully briefed and prepared for every engagement.

Key Responsibilities Include

* Manage and maintain the Mayor’s diary, ensuring optimal use of time and alignment with strategic priorities.
* Liaise with senior officials, partners, and community representatives to schedule meetings and events.
* Commission briefings and itineraries, working closely with policy, communications, and operations teams.
* Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts, adapting plans quickly and professionally.
* Support wider administrative functions within the Mayor’s Office as required.

Due to the nature of the role, which involves regular interaction with the Mayor, the successful candidate will be required to attend the office during periods when the Mayor is present. All requests for flexible working will be handled in a reasonable manner, taking into account individual circumstances and the potential impact on service delivery. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You’ll be an experienced Administrator or Executive Assistant with:

* Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
* Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
* Discretion, diplomacy, and a calm approach under pressure.
* Confidence using digital tools and calendar systems (e.g., Outlook, Teams).
* A commitment to public service and an understanding of the political landscape.
