We are delighted to advertise a Band 6 Pre-Registration Genetic Counsellor post to join our friendly team in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service (AWMGS) in Cardiff.
Starting salary will be on the first point of Band 6 on a 30-month fixed-term contract.
The Clinical and Laboratory services merged to form the AWMGS in April 2019. Together, they provide the medical genomics service to the population of Wales. The AWMGS has hubs across Wales with Specialist Medical Geneticists and Genetic Counsellors providing genetic services in all the main hospitals throughout Wales. In collaboration with Cardiff University, Wales Gene Park, and the Welsh Government, the AWMGS is working to deliver the Welsh Government Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy for patients within Wales. This is a highly exciting and innovative strategy with opportunities for staff, healthcare professionals, patients, and the public across Wales.
This is a fixed-term post for 30 months to cover service needs.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
The successful applicant will be expected to see patients covering all areas of genetics such as cancer, general, cardiac, and prenatal. They will work towards a full clinical caseload and may also engage in teaching, audit, and service development work to gather evidence for registration. The role may require covering all areas of Wales and rotating through other service locations, which could involve secondments. Clinics will include virtual, phone, and face-to-face sessions. Upon completing the fixed-term appointment, prospects for permanent employment within Wales are excellent. For individuals with aptitude and commitment, there are opportunities to progress along the genetic counselling career pathway.
This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals interested in pursuing a career within Wales.
Please note: Completion of this fixed-term post does not automatically confer registration as a genetic counsellor. Submission of a portfolio meeting all relevant standards will be required to achieve registration.
