Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon’s Retail business growth worldwide through three core tasks: (a) Selection, where RBS sources, creates, and enriches ASINs to drive GMS growth; (b) Defect Elimination, where RBS resolves inbound supply chain defects and develops root cause fixes to improve free cash flow; and (c) supporting operational processes for worldwide Retail teams where there is an air gap in the tech stack. The RBS tech team develops automation leveraging Machine/Deep Learning to scale execution of complex tasks that currently require human cognitive skills. Our solutions ensure that Amazon's catalog information is complete, correct, and comprehensive, providing customers with a great shopping experience.

Key job responsibilities
We seek a skilled Application Engineer (AE) to act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for one or more services. The AE will lead large multi-team projects, resolve complex support issues, and improve operational efficiency through SLAs, metrics, monitors, and documentation. Responsibilities include designing high-performance scripts and applications, collaborating with Amazon leaders, mentoring team members, and handling on-call support for monitoring, infrastructure, and bug fixes. Onboarding clients and familiarizing them with platform features are also key tasks.
Basic qualifications
* 5+ years of software development or technical support experience
* Ownership of support activities and collaboration with development teams
* Deep understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices
* Ability to understand/debug existing code and write efficient code
* Proficiency with relational databases like MySQL and PostgreSQL using SQL
* Experience with software testing principles
* Technical guidance and mentorship skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical solutions
* Effective communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
* Ability to handle high-impact incidents and perform root cause analysis
* Excellent communication skills for customer support via email, phone, or screen-share
* Interpersonal skills to interface with diverse team members and leaders
Preferred qualifications
* Understanding of support processes, SLAs, ticket handling, monitoring, and metrics
* Experience with cloud technology and distributed/enterprise applications
