3 months contract with local authority We are seeking a Waste Operations to oversee and lead a team of Waste Operatives in the collection of household and commercial waste. The ideal candidate will ensure that waste collection services are provided in accordance with health and safety requirements, daily work schedules, and council regulations. The Waste Operations Team Leader will also be responsible for handling queries and complaints from the public and promoting the use of recycling schemes. Main Responsibilities Supervise and lead a team of Waste Operatives to provide waste collection services, including "assisted" collections and addressing late collections or missed bins. Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) and health & safety practices when dealing with various types of waste. Handle special or bulky waste items in accordance with health & safety practices and regulatory requirements. Ensure proper presentation of various waste types in appropriate containers and provide relevant information to residents about waste collection services. Maintain knowledge of hazardous waste handling and report any incidents requiring follow-up action to the Waste Supervisor. Provide assistance in collecting and loading waste to the vehicle as needed. Deliver waste to the appropriate disposal/processing site while adhering to transportation and unloading regulations. Receive specialized training in vehicles and vehicle-related equipment to attain the required standard. Undertake training sessions to meet the obligations and regulations associated with the retention of the Drivers CPC. Perform daily checks on the large goods vehicle (LGV) and report any defects or damage to the Operational Supervisor and Fleet Management. Be responsible for the safe driving and use of the vehicle in heavy traffic and residential areas, addressing any problems arising from parked cars and obstructions. Use the supplied mobile phone to maintain contact with Operational Supervisors and handle paperwork duties, including bonus sheet preparation and recording required changes on the returned daily work schedules. Address queries and complaints from the public or local businesses, providing general information on waste services and promoting recycling schemes. Comply with all procedures and instructions as set out in the Drivers Handbook. Requirements Proven experience in waste management or related field Strong leadership and team management skills Knowledge of health & safety regulations related to waste collection Excellent communication and customer service skills Valid driver's license with LGV entitlement Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
