Job Purpose:
We are seeking a buyer with negotiation skills to take responsibility for purchasing goods materials components and services within the organisation, including sourcing suppliers and supporting the financial controller with the negotiation of contracts.
The successful candidate will need excellent communication skills a solid understanding of UK contract law and procurement regulations and the ability to collaborate with other departments to ensure purchasing strategies align with the company's operational needs and objectives. Additionally, they should be an effective problem solver who can work independently as a key member of the team.
Responsibilities:
· Purchase goods, materials, components, and services to meet required cost, quality, and delivery targets
· Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, acting as a key point of contact
· Negotiate pricing, terms, contracts, and delivery schedules to secure favourable outcomes
· Support internal stakeholders and communicate supply issues that may impact operations
· Prepare and raise purchase orders, order schedules, and procurement documentation
· Monitor supplier performance in terms of price, quality and delivery.
· Conduct supplier assessments, performance reviews, and support supplier audits with the QHSE team
· Maintain accurate data in SAP for purchase orders, supplier data and item data.
· Investigate and resolve supply issues such as delivery delays, invoice discrepancies, or quality concerns
· Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, procedures, and industry regulations
· Contribute to continuous improvement across procurement processes and business operations
· Other business administration to support management as needed
Experience and Education:
· Strong recent experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
· Proven ability to negotiate prices, contract terms, and delivery schedules.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple internal teams
· Experience resolving procurement issues (delays, shortages, quality problems)
· Pro-active and capable of working without direct supervision.
· Team-oriented with interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Essential Skills
· Familiarity with UK contract law and procurement regulations
· Understanding of end-to-end procurement processes and supplier relationship management
· Experience of procurement within an ERP systems
· Strong Microsoft excel and word skills.
· Background in manufacturing, engineering, or technical procurement
Desirable Skills
· Experience with SAP Business One Purchasing and Stock management modules.
· CIPS Diploma in Procurement & Supply
· Export / Import control experience
