The role : Working within a 24/7 team under the supervision of the Team Leader – Digital Radio, monitors the status and performance of the Digital Radio Baseband systems and ancillary equipment, the Arqiva Audio Streaming product and taking corrective action on both platforms when and where required. Work with the Radio Network Operators to undertake management of all the networks and systems relating to Digital Radio. Provide technical support for Field Engineers, while also acting as a technical point of contact for customers on any of the DAB Multiplexing platforms and the Arqiva Audio streaming platform. What you’ll be working on: • End to end Management of the Digital Radio Platform for all commercial Arqiva Managed DAB Multiplexers and associate equipment. • Manage multiplexer configurations as required by the customers and the Radio Business unit's requirements (via Arqiva's change request system). • First line support of DAB distribution via 2WCOM DAB4C/EDICs • Provide technical support to field engineers, and other Arqiva divisions. • Assist the delivery of new installations and re-engineering projects. • First line support of the Arqiva Audio Streaming product, fault diagnosis and escalation • Manage revenue generation and damage limitation, and effective and efficient relations with Arqiva both internal and external customers. • Accept, acknowledge and respond to all baseband and audio streaming alarms, initiate controls as appropriate. Communicate fault conditions to field staff, customers and service suppliers, for example Virgin Media and SoundStack. • Ensure that fault resolution is accomplished within the Service Level Agreement (SLA) and contractual limits, invoking escalation and disaster recovery procedures as and when required. • To participate in Continual Service Improvement within the DAB Baseband team • Facilitate fault location and clearance in a manner calculated to optimise the customer perception of Arqiva. • Have a professional interaction with Arqiva personnel and it’s customers. • Produce appropriate records, reports, and procedures to support continued and improved operation of the UK DAB systems and the Arqiva Audio Streaming system. • Produce both regular and ad-hoc, clear and concise operational reports within required timescales for both internal and external use • Work with Trainee Systems Engineers (Digital Radio) to coach and mentor them through their training period • Develop sufficient knowledge of the systems and component parts to support other functions. • Provide direct operational support at both user and administrator level of the software systems being used to manage the network. • Supply remote operation of engineering-level interfaces to individual items of technical equipment. • Have detailed knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the customer and how these are provided within the system(s) • Support and implement the Arqiva company values within the DAB Baseband team and wider BOC. What we’re looking for: Role Requirements • Full UK driving licence. • Willingness to undertake extensive training, including periods away from Emley Moor. • Ability to work flexible shift patterns, including nights and weekends. Technical & Sector Skills • Knowledge of Digital Radio networks and ensembles, including multiplex manager setup. • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows applications. • Familiarity with Unix, shells, shell scripting, and general command line operation. • Networking knowledge: SNMP, TCP/IP, Telnet, FTP. • Understanding of telecoms technologies: Ethernet, ISDN, X.21, E1, SDH, and timing/clock systems. • Knowledge of system base codecs, MPEG systems, and COFDM transmission. • Experience with Radioscape and Paneda software. • Ability to operate/configure routers, switches, and hubs. • Knowledge of audio formats/interfaces (analogue, AES/EBU). • Awareness of scheduling/automation systems and RF receiver/transmitter, aerial, and electricity supply systems.
