About the Role
As Shop Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the store, ensuring high retail standards, excellent customer service, and strong financial performance. You will lead and inspire your team (including Assistant Shop Managers and volunteers) to create a welcoming, well‑organised shop that serves the local community and maximises income through a range of ethical retail channels.
Key Responsibilities
* Achieve income targets across all revenue streams, including shop sales, Gift Aid, donations, recycling, and online selling.
* Ensure strong stock generation and maintain the shop at a minimum 90% capacity with high‑quality goods.
* Analyse shop data to inform merchandising, pricing, and space utilisation.
* Deliver excellent customer service and develop a “sales through service” culture.
* Recruit, train, motivate, and support volunteers and staff, ensuring all receive appropriate induction and ongoing development.
* Manage staff rotas, cash handling, finance procedures, and security of the building.
* Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and presentation of the shop, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, statutory legislation, and SVP policies.
* Engage with the local community, promoting the shop through creative displays, marketing, and social media.
* Work collaboratively with other SVP shops, wider departments, and local SVP members.
About You – Essential Qualities
* Experience in retail management, including staff and volunteer supervision.
* Proven track record in achieving income or performance targets.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver excellent customer service.
* Confident with IT and EPOS systems, with a willingness to develop further digital skills.
* Highly organised, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement.
* Empathetic towards the ethos and values of the SVP.
Desirable
* Charity retail experience or knowledge of the reuse sector.
* Experience with online selling.
* Understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram; TikTok advantageous).
