Role: Arboriculture Officer
Salary: Grade H £37,280 - £39,862 a year
Location: Stores Road Depot, Derby
Hours: 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday 07:00am – 15:00pm

We are looking for a skilled Arboricultural Officer, who is a motivated individual to help us manage and protect our trees across the city, supporting the delivery of safe, attractive and sustainable parks and green spaces for residents, businesses and visitors.
As an Arboricultural Officer your role will be required to lead a small team of arborists, chargehands and Tree inspector, participating and delivering Great Performance Conversations supporting the team’s personal development. Excellent communication skills are a must.
You will report to the Parks and Greenspaces Operations Manager within the Climate and Active Environments team, working closely with colleagues, contractors and partner organisations.
A typical working week is Monday to Friday 7am to 3pm, unless you are on call in which your week will also include call handling out of hours tree emergencies 7 days of the week 3pm to 8am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday including bank holidays in which you will be paid a standby fee. Being on standby means you are not actively working, but you must be ready to work if needed, outside your core hours.

The Opportunity
In the role of Arboriculture Officer, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
- Ensure tree inspections and surveys, assessing tree condition, are conducted in line with the risk and maintenance needs.
- Providing expert arboriculture advice to colleagues, members, residents and external partners.
- Preparing work specifications and schedules for tree works and monitoring contractors on site.
- Contributing to the management of protected trees, including TPOs and trees in conservation areas.
- Respond to enquiries, service requests and emergencies relating to trees.
- Leading a small team of Arborists, Chargehand and Tree Inspector, whilst promoting the teams personal development alongside Great Performance Conversations.
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…
• Have relevant arboriculture qualifications and practical experience in tree inspection and management.
• Be confident making sound, evidence-based decisions and explaining your recommendations clearly.
• Be comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and able to travel across the city.
• Be committed to health and safety, excellent customer service and our values, including equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Have a positive attitude and great work ethos.
• Hold a valid Full UK Driving Licence.
