Mission description
The Mechanical Certification Engineer works within a cross‑functional team and is responsible for conducting all mechanical analysis, substantiation and certification activities needed to deliver a safe and reliable product that meets regulatory safety standards. The role involves producing high‑quality substantiation documents on schedule, planning, executing and reporting on certification activities, and liaising with aircraft manufacturers and regulatory authorities.
Job summary
Liaising with aircraft manufacturers (Boeing, Airbus, etc.) and regulatory authorities (EASA, FAA), the certification engineer ensures approvals (ETSO, STC or TC) are obtained on time to support product delivery to OEM customers and airline operators.
Scope of responsibilities
* Plan, conduct and report activities to demonstrate compliance of SGB cabin interior products to FAA and EASA CS/FAR Part 25, ETSO and aircraft OEM requirements.
* Perform structural assessment/analysis of seat and furniture assembly geometries to define the appropriate structural substantiation strategy.
* Review and validate FE analysis results with manual calculations where applicable.
* Approve stress analysis (FEA) results for use in the generation of interface load reports in accordance with aircraft interface load allowables.
* Coordinate internally with the stress team to ensure accurate representation of the FE analysis models.
* Coordinate externally with the airframe OEM to understand aircraft load allowables and installation requirements (static, dynamic, abuse, cyclic if any).
* Resolve issues/conflicts to ensure full alignment of certification requirements.
* Compile and check test plans, reports and other documents necessary to define, analyse and test the structural substantiation of assemblies (Dynamic, Static and Abuse/cyclic).
* Plan, organise and conduct development and certification tests to demonstrate compliance of products to regulatory and aircraft OEM requirements.
Qualifications
* Degree in mechanical, aerospace or structural engineering (or equivalent HNC/HND qualification).
* Knowledge of CS 25, CS ETSO and EU Commission Regulation 748/2012.
* Experience working with airframe manufacturer specifications.
* Knowledge of SAE Aerospace Standards, FAA Advisory Circulars, EASA Certification Memoranda, GM and AMC relating to aircraft interior structures.
* Detailed understanding and working knowledge of mechanical structures and structural load paths.
* Proficient in generating technical specifications and reports and able to convey complex technical ideas in writing.
