Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Data Centre Support Engineer. The role primarily involves providing server hardware support across a multi‑vendor environment (HPE, Dell) and performing data centre cabling activities: installation, termination, patching, and testing of all DC interlink cabling (CAT‑5e, CAT‑6, 6A, fibre optic).
The role also includes data centre facilities management activities such as IMAC/D (Install, Move, Change, decommissioning), escorting external resources, requesting access, and goods in/out. Work is based at customer sites in Lewisham and London Docklands, covering 24/7, 365 on a 12‑hour shift schedule.
Tasks (but not limited to):
* Installations, maintenance, and repairs on customer equipment.
* Installation, termination, and testing of all data centre interlink cabling (CAT‑5e, CAT‑6, 6A, fibre optic).
* Strong customer relationship building skills; ability to manage complex customer problems.
* Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by clarifying customer needs and ensuring that they are met; handle customer‑relational problems promptly and appropriately.
* Ensure all calls are resolved within the agreed SLA, escalating when required and updating customers until the call is resolved and closed.
* Communicate at all levels, both written and verbal.
* Display calmness and the ability to solve problems under pressure.
Required skills and attributes
* Strong knowledge of HPE Proliant and Dell servers.
* Experience with patch cabling in DC environments.
* Good knowledge of ServiceNow (SNOW).
* Sound knowledge of ESD working practice.
* Sound knowledge of general Health & Safety.
