Role Title: Senior Engineer – Electrical Power Systems Analysis We are Rolls‑Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy. The Electrical Systems function plays a critical role in defining the performance, reliability and safety of the SMR power station. Within this, Electrical Power Systems Analysis provides the modelling and simulation capability required to support system design, verification and assurance across a range of operating and fault conditions. About the Role: As a Senior Engineer – Electrical Power Systems Analysis, you will provide technical expertise across the design of electrical systems for the SMR, developing and maintaining power system models to support ongoing design definition and optimisation. You will work within a multidisciplinary environment, applying structured systems‑engineering principles to analyse electrical system performance and behaviour. Your outputs will inform key design decisions, contributing directly to the development of a safe, reliable and robust electrical architecture. You will collaborate closely with electrical, systems, verification and performance teams, supporting integration activities and ensuring alignment across the wider engineering programme. We’ll Need You To: Develop, maintain and interrogate electrical power system models for complex HV and LV networks Carry out power system studies including load flow, short‑circuit and transient analysis Interpret and apply analysis results to inform and justify design decisions Support the development of electrical system architectures and single line diagrams Produce high‑quality technical reports, calculations and presentations Support requirements definition, verification planning and technical review activities Apply engineering lifecycle processes to ensure design maturity and quality Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering teams Support continuous improvement of analysis methods and modelling capability Key Skills Required: We know there’s no such thing as the ‘perfect’ candidate. If you meet around 75% of the criteria below, we’d love to hear from you: Knowledge and Experience: Experience in electrical power engineering within a design engineering environment is required, with demonstrable expertise in power system modelling and analysis Proficiency in the use of ETAP is essential A strong understanding of high‑ and low‑voltage power systems and distribution architectures is required, with experience of power generation systems being advantageous Familiarity with additional analysis and cable sizing software packages is desirable Proven experience in carrying out power system studies, including load flow and short‑circuit analysis, with the ability to critically interpret, evaluate and apply analysis results to inform design decisions Previous experience in the nuclear industry is not essential; however, a demonstrated track record of working across the electrical system lifecycle in a highly regulated industry (e.g. Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Automotive or Oil & Gas) would be advantageous Criteria: Demonstrated expertise in developing, maintaining and interrogating electrical power system models for complex HV and LV networks, including execution and interpretation of load flow, short‑circuit and transient analyses to inform and justify design decisions Applied knowledge of electrical design codes and standards relevant to power system analysis, with the ability to justify design decisions, demonstrate compliance and engage effectively with assurance and regulatory stakeholders in a highly regulated environment Knowledge and experience of electrical power system design, including interfaces with generation, distribution, protection and loads, and the ability to integrate analysis outputs into coherent system‑level design solutions Demonstrated understanding of engineering lifecycle and design processes, with the ability to produce clear, proportionate technical reports, calculations and presentations that support design maturity, assurance and decision‑making at formal review gates Acts as a positive technical role model, demonstrating proactive behaviours, knowledge sharing and the ability to support and develop less experienced engineers through mentoring, coaching and technical review. Location: Hybrid working with one of the following as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington. Salary and Package: The salary band for this role will be between £50,650 – £66,500 dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring. There may be flexibility with the starting salary in exceptional cases, and the role may develop further over time. Benefits include: Bonus – Performance‑related target opportunity up to 12.5% Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum for a bespoke package Pension – 12% employer and 6% employee contributions Holidays – 28 days ( public holidays) with the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days Private Medical Insurance – BUPA single cover Life Assurance – 6× pensionable pay Home Office Support – £250 one‑off payment for new starters Selection Process: The closing date for this role is 31st May 2026. The process will begin with an introductory call with the Talent Acquisition Partner, with interviews being able to take place straight away. Why Join Us?
