The Gateley Smithers Purslow group is looking to recruit a full‑time Chartered Building Surveyor to join our growing team in Leeds. The position is primarily Leeds‑based, with local work around Leeds. It is a busy and varied role that supports the Surveying team on a wide range of projects, including insurance work and residential and commercial buildings in all types of construction.
Responsibilities
* Inspect and provide advice on the design, construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of all types of buildings and sites.
* Conduct acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys and defect investigations.
* Prepare reports, schedules of works and works specifications.
* Design and oversee works using recognised building contracts and current technical standards.
* Undertake large‑value projects independently with sound knowledge of all aspects of professional consultancy services.
* Apply relevant legislation such as health and safety, party wall, building regulations and planning.
* Promote the company’s services to secure projects and reinforce the Gateley Smithers Purslow brand.
* Provide supervision and support to APC candidates to promote knowledge and understanding.
* Comply with the company’s administrative, personnel procedures and Health & Safety regulations.
Qualifications
* Must be MRICS Accredited.
* Experience and extensive working knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural & planning practices and procedures, with awareness of statutory requirements and technical publications.
* Experience in defect diagnosis and report writing.
* Experience in contract administration.
* Insurance repair project experience preferred.
* Experience in negotiation, supervisory and leadership roles.
* Experience working to deadlines and within budgets on large‑scale projects.
* Understanding of CDM Regs 2015, Party Wall and Building Regulation legislation.
* Sound mathematical, scientific and IT skills with a methodical problem‑solving approach.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Flexible and variable attitude to work type.
