Mental Health Support Worker – Northumberland

Do you want to support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people? Are you passionate about making a difference for students who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, or social and emotional needs?
Protocol Education is working in partnership with a specialist school in Northumberland that supports children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join their team and play a key role in promoting wellbeing and resilience.
Your Responsibilities:
* Work with pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis to provide emotional and mental health support
* Help students develop strategies for managing anxiety, low mood, anger, and emotional regulation
* Support with the implementation of behaviour and wellbeing plans
* Collaborate with teachers, SEN staff, and external agencies to build a consistent support network
* Promote a calm, safe, and nurturing environment for students to thrive
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Experience supporting children or young people with mental health or emotional needs (education, youth work, residential care, or counselling backgrounds are all relevant)
* A trauma-informed and person-centred approach
* Strong communication and active listening skills
* Confidence in handling challenging behaviour with calm professionalism
* Knowledge of safeguarding and mental health frameworks in education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
