Safran Helicopter Engines is the world leader in rotorcraft turbines and the only one dedicated exclusively to this market. Our UK facility is the European Maintenance Centre Hub for the SHE Group, performing level 1 to level 3 maintenance and repairs on complex helicopter engine components. Our teams provide technical expertise and support in both fixed wing and rotary wing markets.
Position: New Product Introduction Engineer
The role is responsible for transitioning new and modified products from design to production, industrializing design changes for existing products, introducing new products into manufacturing operations, and ensuring robust configuration control. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams including commercial, purchasing, and operations to facilitate seamless product introductions and enhancements.
Responsibilities
1. Industrialization of Design Changes – Evaluate and implement design changes for existing products to improve manufacturability and performance; develop and document manufacturing processes, work instructions, and quality assurance protocols for design changes; coordinate cross-departmental input to ensure changes meet cost, quality, and delivery goals.
2. New Product Introduction – Lead the transition of new products from the design phase through to production; develop detailed project plans with risk assessments, resources, timelines, and budget considerations; oversee prototype builds, pilot runs, and production ramp-up to full-scale manufacturing.
3. Configuration Control – Establish and manage configuration control processes to ensure product consistency and traceability; maintain documentation and records relating to product designs, revisions, and manufacturing changes; ensure all stakeholders are informed of configuration changes and understand their implications.
4. Stakeholder Liaison – Collaborate with commercial teams to ensure product specifications align with customer requirements; work with purchasing to select materials and components that meet technical and cost requirements; coordinate with operations to integrate new products and process improvements into the production environment.
5. Continuous Improvement – Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for cost reduction and quality improvement; propose and implement process optimizations based on data-driven insights.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience in a similar role
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in product engineering, preferably in the aerospace sector or a similar regulated industry
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques
* Experience with AS9100 FAIR process is essential
* Experience with configuration management and documentation systems
* Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
* Experience with APQP and PPAP processes would be advantageous
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices; familiarity with aerospace quality standards and regulatory requirements
