Role Overview
This role is part of the BlueBear Business in Bedfordshire. We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to support the continued evolution of our development and delivery capability across the software team delivering desktop and embedded applications.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, TeamCity, and other tools; suggest new or improved tools and techniques; integrate Artifactory with pipelines to manage build artifacts and releases. Ensure pipelines are scalable, reliable, secure, and automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
* Manage integrations between tooling systems to enable seamless developer workflows; support software teams in onboarding, troubleshooting, and optimizing their development environments.
* Monitor, maintain, and optimize build infrastructure performance and availability; implement best practices in version control, branching strategies, and release management.
* Ensure systems meet security, reliability, and compliance requirements; proactively engage with engineering teams to identify and resolve bottlenecks; contribute to continuous improvement of DevOps practices; document tooling, processes, and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing.
Qualifications and Skills
* Strong experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and/or TeamCity.
* Experience administering Git-based platforms (e.g. GitLab).
* Experience with artifact repository management (e.g. JFrog Artifactory) and dependency management strategies.
* Working knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible; experience designing and maintaining automated build and deployment pipelines.
* Strong understanding of mixed Windows and Linux environments, system administration, and scripting (Bash, Python, or similar) for automation.
* Understanding of software development lifecycles and DevOps best practices.
* Experience with containerisation (Docker) and/or orchestration concepts; strong track record in automating workflows, maintaining developer platforms, and building resilient build and release pipelines.
* Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP) and system integration; development in Java and/or C++.
* Strong problem‑solving skills, proactive approach to improving systems, ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, and experience mentoring or supporting engineering teams.
* Understanding of software quality practices (testing, automation, release gating). Existing SC Clearance would be desirable but not a requirement.
