Job Overview
Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist to join a friendly, forward‑thinking team of 31 consultant radiologists at the Royal United Hospital Bath. This new post supports service expansion and requires cross‑sectional skills applicable to a general department.
The post is full‑time; part‑time applicants are also encouraged. It includes participation in evenings, weekends and on‑call rota. Outsourcing is used for most cross‑sectional emergency work performed after 02000, seven days a week. The RUH serves a population of 500,000.

Main Duties of the Job
Musculoskeletal (MSK)
Significant musculoskeletal requirement with participation in all aspects of musculoskeletal radiology. The post includes sessions at the RUH site for the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (RNHRD). The trust has five sub‑specialty musculoskeletal radiologists working at both the RUH and RNHRD. The majority of diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology is undertaken; vertebroplasty and soft‑tissue/bone sarcoma work are excluded. The RUH is a designated trauma unit. The RNHRD has an international reputation for research in psoriatic arthropathy and ankylosing spondylitis.
Person Specification
* Skills – Essential criteria:
o Fully accredited clinical radiologist on GMC specialist register
o Current general radiological practice and ability appropriate to a district general hospital environment
o Fully motivated in contributing to general and specialised work in the department and in maintaining a high standard of personal development
o Musculoskeletal imaging fellowship
* Skills – Desirable criteria:
o Experience of complex spinal interventional work
* Personal Attributes – Essential criteria:
o Good interpersonal skills with ability to relate to all members of staff and patients
o Committed to working within a team
o Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing to staff, patients and relatives ensuring that communication is tailored to the person being addressed
o Ability to work under pressure

o Evidence of adaptability, organisation of time and learning
o Computing skills
o Commitment to continuing personal development and to the specialty
* Teaching Experience – Essential criteria:
o Able to support multidisciplinary teaching and subspecialty training

o Experience of teaching SpR’s
* Research Experience – Essential criteria:
o Evidence of delivery of research publications and audit
* Research Experience – Desirable criteria:
o Interest in developing clinical research and departmental audit and ability to organise post‑graduate research
* Management and Administration – Essential criteria:
o Awareness of audit process, appraisal, principles of Clinical Governance, confidentiality and data protection

o Proven track record of audit
Qualifications – Essential criteria
* GMC recognised general medical qualification
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
* FRCR
* Be on the Specialist Register, or ideally within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview
