Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Acute Inpatient Services (maternity leave cover)
We are looking for a candidate to work full‑time in the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service at University Hospitals of Leicester. The role involves supporting acute inpatient services at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital, and Preston Lodge as required. Flexible working options will be considered.
You will collaborate with an Operational Lead Speech and Language Therapist and lead a team that includes experienced and developing Band 5 and Band 6 Speech and Language Therapists, as well as a developing Speech and Language Therapy Advanced Support Worker. Travel between UHL sites is essential.
Responsibilities
* Work independently with adults with a range of acquired and complex communication and swallowing disorders, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
* Support morning processes and caseload prioritisation discussions.
* Contribute to regular team meetings.
* Lead dysphagia competency training for junior staff.
* Line manage and provide clinical supervision.
* Undertake clinical audit and service development projects.
* Support the wider service in providing a community videofluoroscopy clinic on rota.
Qualifications and Experience
* Band 6 or Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with experience in an acute setting, specifically with complex swallowing difficulties.
* Experience and interest in leadership and line management.
* Competencies in videofluoroscopy and tracheostomy are desirable.
* Essential experience in acute dysphagia management.
* Willingness and ability to travel between UHL sites.
