Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly committed Interim SENCO to join a well-regarded secondary school near Bedford. This is a key leadership role within the school’s pastoral and inclusion team, offered on an interim basis until January 2026, with the potential for a permanent appointment for the right candidate.
The role is available immediately, and the school welcomes applications from candidates looking for either a full-time or part-time arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision, ensuring the highest standards of support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Take urgent responsibility for completing 24 outstanding EHCPs, working in close partnership with the Local Authority, parents/carers, and other external professionals.
Oversee the identification, assessment, and monitoring of pupils with SEND, ensuring full compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
Coordinate and implement support plans for pupils with EHCPs, ensuring their needs are effectively met across the curriculum.
Provide expert guidance and CPD to staff on inclusive strategies and differentiated teaching approaches.
Line manage and support a team of LSAs/TAs to ensure high-quality, impactful provision.
Work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to embed an inclusive culture and raise outcomes for all learners with additional needs.
Person Specification
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) – desirable but not essential for interim appointment.
Proven experience as a SENCO or in a senior inclusion role in a secondary setting.
Demonstrable knowledge of EHCP processes and confident working in partnership with Local Authorities.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet statutory deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and influence colleagues effectively.
