ARRS Advanced Nurse Practitioner Burnley West PCN
Job Summary
The successful post holder will be an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner working autonomously within their professional scope of practice. Responsibilities include initial history taking, clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, evaluation and follow‑up of care. The role requires safe clinical decision‑making, expert care delivery and collaborative working with the multidisciplinary general practice team. Leadership responsibilities are also expected as required.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and triage patients, including same‑day triage, providing definitive treatment where appropriate or making referrals.
* Manage undifferentiated conditions, identify red flags and take appropriate action.
* Use complex decision making for diagnosis, investigation and management of episodes of care.
* Implement a personalised and population‑centred care approach to enable shared decision making.
* Complete relevant training to provide multi‑professional clinical practice and CPD supervision to other primary care roles.
* Maintain accurate clinical records, ensuring SNOMED CT coding and adherence to regulations.
* Participate in audits, inspections and multidisciplinary protocol development.
* Provide chronic disease clinics and specialist treatment plans as required.
* Support the team in clinical emergencies, safeguarding matters, and IPC compliance.
* Actively engage in peer review, feedback and continuous professional development.
* Serve as a professional role model and mentor for students, newly qualified staff and clinical teams.
* Develop and embed effective call/recall systems and robust governance frameworks.
Qualifications
* Essential: Registered on the appropriate professional register; Qualified independent prescriber; Masters degree; Advanced digital badge or enrollment on an accredited MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner programme.
* Desirable: Teaching or mentoring experience and/or qualification.
Experience
* Essential: Minimum of 5 years post‑registration experience, including long‑term condition management (e.g., asthma, COPD, diabetes, CHD); Evidence of continuing professional development; Proven ability to evaluate safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice.
* Desirable: Interpreting and implementing local and national policy agendas; Experience of undertaking audit.
Knowledge and Skills
* In-depth knowledge of primary care services, GMS/PMS contract, Clinical Governance, QOF, and local Enhanced Service contracts.
* Understanding of evidence‑based practice, NICE guidelines, national service frameworks and NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
* Effective time management, prioritisation and communication skills.
* Proficiency with medical software, ability to work outside core hours, and networking influence.
