Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry - New CMHT

We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist following the review of our medical workforce and service transformation to join the NEW CMHT team. The post-holder will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to drive quality improvement initiatives, enhance patient safety, engage with carers, and deliver psychoeducation to patients. This is a dynamic role for someone passionate about improving community based care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide medical input and leadership to the NEW CMHT with responsibility for patients from surgeries in the Calne and Marlborough area with a population of approximately 42000 of all ages. The post holder will work with adults of working age with a colleague within the CMHT working with Older Adults and a separate Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service providing input to that age group
* Regular attendance at the team MDT meetings.
* Assessment and treatment of outpatients in clinics. To liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non NHS organisations wherever applicable.
* Liaise with the Intensive and Inpatient services as appropriate to facilitate handover of clients between services. Involvement in supervision and training of medical students, resident doctors, Specialist Registrars and multidisciplinary colleagues, non-medical prescribers.
* Contribute to service development, management and business planning through local and Trust wide meetings. To provide medical and AC responsibility for patients from designated GP practices.
* Assessment of outpatients in clinics with advice to GPs regarding medication and other treatments. Routine clinical care through out-patients with an average of 1-2 new patient contacts and 4-6 follow up appointments per week. Telephone advice to GPs. Home visits or reviews in GP practices if clinically indicated. To liaise with other parts of the service, GPs, non NHS organisations wherever applicable.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
* Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
* MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
* CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
Experience
* Experience of assessing and treating patients in a community setting.
Personal Skills
* To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
* Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
Clinical Skills
* Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in Adults of working age and to deal with crisis situations.
Knowledge
* Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
Teaching
* Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching.
* Understand principles of teaching.
Research and Audit
* Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
* Experience of carrying out an audit project.
Management
* Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
