Job summary

The team are based at Parkside Community Mental Health Centre, Middlesbrough. The Consultant will be expected to provide committed, proactive, and responsive clinical leadership working with other staff to provide treatment and intervention services for individuals suffering from chronic or severe mental health conditions in Parkside and the EIP Team.

The Consultant is supported by a Specialty doctor and Foundation doctor and will be expected to provide supervision to them. The Treatment & Intervention and EIP teams have Nurse prescribers, and the post holder will be expected to supervise them.

The Consultant will provide medical input to the Treatment and Intervention team and EIP team, with clinics located at Parkside. They will undertake joint reviews with other team members for complex, unstable, and high-risk patients, and will be involved in personalized care planning. They will also provide clinical support and supervision to the team alongside the Team Manager, Advanced Practitioners, and Psychologists. Attendance at Huddle, Supercell, and team meetings is expected. The Treatment and Intervention team can access specialist services including a Tertiary Treatment and Intervention Service, ADHD service, Autism Spectrum Assessment Team, Perinatal Team, and Eating Disorder Service.

Main duties of the job

* Provide committed, proactive, and responsible leadership working with the Community Treatment and Intervention Team and EIP team.
* Attend Daily Huddle and weekly Supercell meetings for patient care decisions.
* Undertake assessments for new patients, follow-up, and review patients, providing diagnoses and treatment plans.
* Participate in formulation and care plan review meetings.
* Act as Responsible Clinician for patients on Community Treatment Orders (CTO) and MOJ orders.
* Responsible for Mental Health Act Assessments in the community and occasional Section 136 assessments.
* Provide supervision to Junior Medical Staff and Non-Medical Prescribers.
* On-call frequency is 1:18, covering all mental health units in Teesside, Community Assessment Suites, and acute hospitals, including MHA assessments in the community, police stations, and crisis teams.

Leadership

Knowledge of NHS and Trust management structures. Committed to quality improvement and lean methodologies, or able to achieve within one year. Capable of leading service change.
* Desirable: Leadership outside the multidisciplinary team; understanding of NHS and wider health economy; trained to TEWV Trust Quality improvement level 2.

Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning

* Capable of delivering undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and training. Participates in CPD, research, service evaluation, clinical audit. Able to appraise clinical evidence.
* Desirable: Experience in teaching, research, awards, publications, leading audits.

Qualifications

* Essential: MB BS or equivalent; GMC registration and license to practice.
* Desirable: Higher degrees in medical education, research, or management; MRCPsych or equivalent; Approved Clinician and Section 12 status or able to achieve within 3 months.

Clinical Knowledge & Skills

* Excellent specialty knowledge, clinical skills using bio-psycho-social model, good communication skills, capable of managing clinical complexity and uncertainty, making evidence-based decisions, and meeting duties under MHA and MCA.
* Desirable: Wide range of specialist/sub-specialist NHS experience.

Experience

* Essential: Relevant clinical experience.
* Desirable: Additional applicable experience.
