Plus Distant Islands Allowance of £2,578 per annum (pro rata)
Are you a Healthcare Support Worker or looking for a new challenge and development opportunity? Ward 1/HDU is a busy surgical unit that admits both adults and children that require surgery whether it’s planned surgery or emergency care. We strive to provide our patients with a patient‑centred approach to their care on an individual basis which includes a holistic methodology. The care provided is to an excellent standard in an extremely busy environment that is both challenging and rewarding. You will learn many new skills and enable patients to have the best possible standard of care.
Experience in the care sector is desirable but not essential. You will have effective written and verbal communication skills, numeracy and an interest in developing your skills in preventing healthcare associated infections (HAI).
Responsibilities
* Provide patient‑centred care to adults and children requiring surgery, both planned and emergency.
* Deliver care to an excellent standard within a busy, challenging and rewarding environment.
* Assist with preventing healthcare associated infections (HAI).
* Comply with the Induction Standards and Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers within 3 months of commencing your role.
Qualifications
* Experience in the care sector desirable but not essential.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Numeracy skills.
* Interest in developing skills in preventing HAIs.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including unsocial hours such as evenings, nights and weekends.
Additional Information
Our Healthcare Support Worker roles attract enhanced payments for unsocial hours, including evenings, nights and weekends. These additional payments are on top of basic salary.
As from 01/04/2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate to keep pay unchanged.
Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
