Role and Scope
Working on assignments covering all aspects of public sector and industrial and commercial energy usage, energy savings, utility plant redevelopment and CO2 emissions reduction. The Engineering Placement Student will formulate, evaluate and prepare technical analysis and specification of industrial and commercial schemes during feasibility studies, scheme design and project implementation.
The Engineering Placement Student will be expected to work in areas covering heat pumps, refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, boilers, compressed air and control schemes. The Engineering Placement Student will have aspiration to develop technical expertise, the role will involve a variety of technical du?es working on live projects.
Responsibilities:
Specific Duties
The Engineering Placement Student will support experienced colleagues with specific du?es as follows:
Bid Development:
Identify Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) at potential customer sites
Carry out energy audits and surveys
Prepare capital costs and energy savings models for each ECM
Prepare the technical write up for inclusion in bid submission
Present technical solutions at bid meetings
Feasibility studies (High Level Appraisals):
Assessment of existing system configuration and opera?on at client sites
Compilation and analysis of data
Conceptual design of energy related projects
Preparation of final report and presentation
Scheme Design (Front End Engineering Designs) :
Further definition of conceptual design from feasibility stage including on-site assessments as necessary
Aid with scheme selection
Help to develop heat and mass balance for the selected scheme
Help to prepare full equipment list with performance/sizing/selection for key energy equipment, all major pipework lines, pumps (including pressure capabilities), heat exchangers including definition of control philosophy
Help to prepare P&IDs, layout and scheme drawings
Initially outline work package for contractor to provide pricing and assess accordingly
Develop savings calculations and pricing to +/- 10% for project capital approval
Detailed Design and Commissioning:
Assist in finalisation of project design, P&ID, equipment selection and layout
Provide technical support to the project implementation team throughout the implementation period
HAZOP and technical review meetings, as required
General Du?es:
To update the company work monitoring systems with accurate details, as required
Assist in improving operations, decrease turnaround items, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
Minimum Qualifications:
Working towards career in Engineering and Design
Understanding of engineering principles associated with mechanical u?li?es design
Proficient in Microso? Office Suite in par?cular Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Excellent verbal, writen and presenta?on skills
Personal Atributes:
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident and have a flexible approach to work. They will be customer-focused, passionate about energy efficiency, renewable energy and decarbonisation. They should be able to demonstrate good organisational skills including the ability to multi-task, priori?se work under pressure and complete work within deadlines. Proven ability to manage and complete complex projects in a ?mely, cost-effec?ve and customer-focused manner.
