Job Description

Start here. Grow here. "Are you ready to join a team of flood risk specialists and shape the future of the Water Industry?" Our Water team is looking for a passionate Senior Flood Modeller to join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line. This is your chance to help deliver high profile, influential projects across the UK and even further afield while working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious and connected northern engineering hubs.

In this role, you will be a senior technical resource that will guide our more junior staff and proactively aim to develop our offering to local authorities, water companies, private and public sector clients.


Responsibilities

* Develop and check hydraulic models (using packages such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS and ICM) to assist the design of Flood Alleviation Schemes, deliver Flood Risk Assessments and conduct reservoir flood studies.
* Develop water quality models (which could be physico-chemical, biological, bacterial, or chemical) using industry standard software e.g. MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT and / or ICM.
* Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, with consideration of the risks and opportunities in each.
* Undertake and check hydrological assessments including Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP.
* Lead and input into tenders ranging from innovative one-off projects to multimillion pound framework contracts.
* Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development.
* Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines.
* Keep up-to-date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services.
* Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs to our clients in line with the agreed programme and budget.
* Work closely with our clients and teams of engineers and technical specialists to help our clients deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects.

Qualifications

* Evidence of significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software (such as Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller and/or TUFLOW).
* Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements in preparing flood models for flood risk assessments.
* Basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and the associated regulatory standards for fresh waters.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline.
* Obtained or near to obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or similar.
* Practical knowledge of scripting programmes such as Python, Anaconda, Ruby would be advantageous.

You will also be self-motivated with an ability to work both autonomously where required, with a strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven team environment.
