Do you have a little extra time to spare to regularly visit a blind veteran in your local community? Weekly or bi-monthly visits can make a big difference to a veteran who is experiencing loneliness and isolation.
Our 80 year old veteran grew up in Portsmouth and was enlisted into the Territorial Army (The Royal Hampshire Regiment) in 1965. He then joined the Regular Army and served in Cyprus, Singapore and the UK as a cook before he was discharged in the mid 1970s.
He lives in well-maintained, supported living accommodation on the outskirts of Gosport town centre. He has been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration (Dry) in both eyes. He still gets pleasure from watching films on his large TV screen and listening to talking books.
He would love to have a volunteer visit him regularly to chat with.
Through regularly meeting, chatting, listening and engaging with our members, our home visitors make a real difference to each of our members’ lives, helping maintain quality of life and contributing to emotional wellbeing. And they have fun whilst doing the role!
If you think you have the skills, or would like to develop these to undertake the role, please register your interest.
