We believe in creating inclusive, safe, and joyful spaces where neurodivergent children can thrive. As our services grow, we are looking for a passionate and skilled Team Leader to join our leadership team.
2. Job Title: Team Leader
Location: Spennymoor, Bishop Auckland. Newton Aycliffe, Langley Park.
Hours: Initially 8/week, mostly through flexible attendance at group sessions which take place afterschool, during school holidays and at the weekend
Salary: £14/hour
Reports to: SEND Services Team Manager
Start: Immediate
3. Job Purpose
To oversee and support the delivery of inclusive services for all children and young people by supervising staff, coordinating delivery, and ensuring high-quality, neurodiversity-affirming practice.
4. Key Responsibilities
1. Support for Children and Young People (immediate)
* Ensure all sessions are inclusive, safe, and meet individual needs.
2. Staff Management and Supervision (immediate, with support)
* Manage support staff, session leaders and/or volunteers.
* Conduct regular reviews with staff, as needed in conjunction with Team Manager.
* Coordinate rotas and cover arrangements.
3. Performance and Quality Monitoring (September onwards)
* Monitor service quality and staff performance.
* Assist with evaluations, feedback collection, and improvement plans in conjunction with the Team Manager.
4. Operational and Administrative Duties (Immediate)
* Support Team Manager with recruitment and onboarding of new staff.
* Liaise with admin team around supplies, and scheduling.
5. Stakeholder and Family Communication (Immediate)
* Build positive relationships with parents/carers and professionals.
* Communicate effectively and empathetically with families.
* Represent the organisation in meetings or events as needed.
6. Service Development (September onwards)
* Contribute to the planning and development of services.
* Share insights to inform funding bids, planning, and reports.
5. Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience
* Experience working with children or young people (5–18), especially those with SEND or autism.
* Experience of team leadership, line management, or supervision.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding children.
* Good knowledge of autism, neurodiversity, or trauma-informed practice.
* Ability to communicate clearly, calmly and sensitively with a range of people.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Experience working in community settings or short breaks.
* Experience with multi-agency working or attending professional meetings.
* Experience of working in a neurodivergent-led or not-for-profit organisation.
* Familiarity with EHCPs or children's services processes.
6. Qualifications and Checks
Essential
* Level 3 qualification or above in a relevant area (e.g., childcare, youth work, education, social care).
* Level 2 (or above) Safeguarding Children (or willingness to complete before start).
* Enhanced DBS check (with update service or willingness to obtain).
* First Aid certificate (or willingness to complete).
Desirable
* Management or supervision training.
* Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 – 12 per week
Application question(s):
* This role is group based and will require travel to local groups on a regular basis, which and when will be agreed with the Team Manager. Admin needed will take place during group sessions to ensure you are available to staff and aware of how the groups work. Are you happy to travel to different places and work at the times stated?
* There will be times when you are at a group and working as the other team members, therefore we need a team leader who has experience of working with children and particularly children with SEND. Can you please tell us your experience of that?
