Join the Urology Diagnostic Nursing Team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are seeking a highly motivated and caring individual to be part of our team based at Churchill Hospital. The role involves patient diagnosis in prostate and bladder cancer, including triaging referrals, conducting initial telephone clinics, organizing MRI scans, and undertaking prostate biopsies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to decide on investigations and diagnoses, assist in triaging complex referrals for prostate and bladder suspected cancer pathways.
2. Request investigations and diagnostic tests, ensure continuity of care.
3. Communicate sensitive information with respect, compassion, and empathy.
4. Perform transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies following Trust protocols.
5. Assess and evaluate treatment effectiveness with patients and carers, making adjustments as needed.
6. Develop professional judgement to manage risks appropriately, working autonomously within a wider healthcare team.
7. Collaborate across professional boundaries, develop partnerships, and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
8. If a non-medical prescriber, register with the Trust Prescribing Lead and prescribe within your scope, following relevant guidelines.
Leadership and Development:
1. Work with the multidisciplinary team to develop a shared vision and demonstrate the Trust values.
2. Contribute to developing care pathways, protocols, and guidelines.
3. Participate in implementing national standards, service review, research, and audit.
4. Engage in professional development, including appraisals, training, and mentorship.
Person Specification:
* Registered nurse with a first degree in nursing or equivalent.
* Postgraduate working experience and interest in urological cancer care.
* Knowledge of the Faster Diagnostics Service and clinical governance.
* Excellent communication skills.
Desirable:
* Registered Non-medical prescriber.
* Relevant urology experience.
* Up-to-date knowledge in the specialty.
