The Role & Key Responsibilities
As a Police Enquiry Officer you will work front line helping members of the public across Sussex report incidents and crimes. You will respond to each contact timely and help communities feel safe.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary point of contact to all visitors to the Police station.
* Act as a conduit between Police Officers and the public.
* Accurately assess and record incidents, ensuring prompt resolution of enquiries through effective communication.
* Identify the purpose and nature of each contact by asking questions to elicit sufficient and relevant information for accurate assessment.
* Provide a proactive, customer‑focused service to all enquiries made via the Front Officer whether in person, by phone or online.
* Operate on a mobile contract with base station at Crowborough Hub supporting Uckfield, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, traveling between locations as required.
* Work rotating shift pattern Monday – Saturday 0900-1700 (public and bank holidays excluded).
Qualifications & Experience
* GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
* Good verbal communication skills and ability to listen.
* Ability to break down problems and determine appropriate action.
* Decision‑making skills: think laterally and resolve incidents creatively.
* Proven problem‑solving skills.
* Accurate written reporting ability.
* Confidence using standard IT packages, systems and databases.
* Personal responsibility and planning own work with minimal supervision.
* Teamwork to achieve shared objectives and support others.
Training & Development
Initial training at Police HQ in Lewes. Ongoing on‑job training with a dedicated coach within your hub.
