Job Description Job Title : Assistant Chief Engineering PWR2 Working Pattern : Full time Working location: Derby (Raynesway) What you will be doing: The Astute class submarines are the largest, most advanced and most powerful attack submarines ever built for the Royal Navy. The class sets a new standard in the terms of weapons load, communications and stealth for the Royal Navy and is the replacement for the Trafalgar class SSNs. HMS Astute, HMS Ambush, HMS Artful, HMS Audacious and HMS Anson are already operational. A further two platforms named Agamemnon and Achilles, currently under construction at BAE Systems shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, will complete the class. Availability of SSNs is key to the Royal Navy’s ability to succeed in meeting its current and future global demands. The Assistant Chief Engineer PWR2 (Build) provides support to the ship builder and is an essential interface with the BAE Systems Build and Commissioning Teams and the Rolls-Royce Technical Authority. This programme offers a wealth of engineering and programmatic challenges and the opportunity to work within a highly motivated team to deliver this highly complex, strategic capability to the Royal Navy. Responsibilities: With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to be involved with the following: Provide the senior Rolls-Royce Engineering oversight and governance to PWR2 Build and Commissioning taking formal delegated authority from the PWR1&2 Chief Engineer on behalf of the NSRP Technical Authority. Provide senior engineering leadership in support of the Resident Engineering Manager in Barrow and assist site office and BAE Systems with resolution of significant technical issues. Provide engineering direction, governance and endorsement for technical activities/decisions undertaken during build and commissioning by the business. Provide all the support to the broader team to deal with issues, solve difficult problems and remove barriers to build and commissioning. Challenge complex and/or difficult requirements and deliver pragmatic solutions. Provide independent advice and guidance on operational defects and issues affecting site. Identify technical mitigations to manage disruptive events and provide an escalation route into the technical authority where progress on issue resolution is not adequate. Provide clear and concise details of technical issues to the MoD customer organisation in support of the wider enterprise engineering governance processes. Communication and influence of key stakeholders who often have conflicting priorities by clearly articulating the situation in a constructive way. Able to build strong relationships across the Enterprise and within BAE Systems, interfacing organisations and the customer community. Highly collaborative, using the strengths of a diverse, distributed team to deliver the programme objectives. A good knowledge of the Submarines Enterprise and how Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and the MoD work together to support the fleet of Royal Navy Submarines. Management experience in complex systems build and commissioning environment at the dockside. A sound level of NSRP knowledge, ideally with PWR2 including plant, systems, components and safety justification. NSSC/NSDC advantageous though not essential. Significant level of personal resilience and persistence.
