About the Defence Infrastructure Cost Centre
We support projects of varying complexity and size, offering services in Programme and Project Management, Planning, Cost Engineering, Risk Management, and Commercial disciplines. Our projects range from hundreds of thousands to over £200M, covering the full project lifecycle pre- and post-contract. We are expanding our team to support our Defence client portfolio and offer opportunities to develop careers on complex, challenging projects.
Job Description
Important: Due to the sensitive nature of these projects, applicants must be SOLE UK Nationals eligible to achieve and maintain UK MoD Security Clearance (SC). Existing SC clearance is preferred but not mandatory; please apply if you are a strong candidate.
We are seeking a Senior Cost Controller (Senior Project Controls Engineer Grade) to join our Defence Midlands & North team. This role involves controls & performance duties on high-profile infrastructure projects, offering opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and learning within our experienced Cost Control community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with project teams and independently, tailoring cost control approaches to meet client needs and best practices.
2. Promote the benefits of cost control within project teams.
3. Implement and maintain systems to track budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.
4. Develop project Cost Breakdown Structures and align budgets with Work Breakdown Structures.
5. Map and integrate cost estimates with project work packages.
6. Build relationships with Finance, Commercial, and Project Managers for aligned project information.
7. Lead accruals to reflect actual costs accurately and timely.
8. Generate cost reports and analyze earned value management data regularly.
9. Provide cost insights to support project status updates and decision-making.
10. Train and mentor team members in cost control practices.
Security Clearance
Applicants must be SOLE UK Nationals able to obtain and maintain SC clearance due to project sensitivity. Many roles are subject to MoD security restrictions based on nationality and residency.
Work Environment
We support hybrid working, with an expected 60% of time on client sites or in offices, subject to business needs. Flexibility in location and travel is required to meet project demands.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in Cost Control.
* Knowledge of cost performance reporting and forecasting techniques.
* Experience leading Cost Control Assurance activities.
* Understanding of Earned Value Management, progress, and performance reporting.
* Practical skills in MS Excel and other MS Office tools.
* Familiarity with Cost Control tools and NEC contracts (desirable).
* Understanding of Project Controls interactions (scheduling, risk, change management).
* Ability to travel regionally as needed.
