Our client is seeking an Investigation officer to investigate serious and complex crimes (Levels 1–3) in line with the Investigation Allocation Model to improve public confidence, deliver justice, and reduce crime.
The role:
Case building – Prepare complex MG files & schedules for Levels 2–3 investigations. Review records for legal/procedural compliance and further opportunities.
Manage allocated cases – Handle multiple complex investigations independently, escalating urgent matters appropriately.
Prosecution file completion – Submit full, time-bound evidence files to national standards; attend court as needed.
Operational support – Arrest suspect support, seizure/handling of exhibits, statement taking, interviewing witnesses/victims/suspects.
Witness management – Contact, interview, and support witnesses throughout the justice process.
Hate crime management – Record and investigate hate crimes, give specialist advice, and work with partner agencies to prevent repeat offences.
Essential Requirements:
* Strong interpersonal & communication skills (oral & written).
* High-quality report & letter writing skills – able to produce accurate, comprehensive documents.
* Planning & organisational ability – manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and ensure standards are met.
* Commitment to training – willing to undertake courses on criminal investigations, interviewing, disclosure, and evidence handling.
* Knowledge (or ability to acquire knowledge) of legislation & procedures covering:
o Documenting, handling, and storing exhibits.
o Disclosure responsibilities.
* Teamwork skills – able to work in a small team with minimal supervision.
Desirable:
* File management experience.
* Investigative background – understanding complexities and sensitivities of crime investigations.
* Liaison skills – working with CPS, legal representatives, and partner agencies.
* Specialist investigation functions – disclosure, exhibits, telecommunications, outside enquiries.
* PEACE interview training.
* Knowledge of major incident room procedures.
