Our client in Bedfordshire is seeking an experienced Head of Asset Management for a high‑impact 6‑month contract. This brand new role provides senior strategic leadership across Estates & Facilities, Fleet, and Operational Equipment, with a major focus on estates and asset management strategy and capital project delivery. The team are in the early stages of delivering a £10m new‑build project so there will be chance to steer this, while ensuring the organisation’s operational assets remain safe,pliant, and fully aligned to service needs. This is a key appointment for an individual capable of leading modern, efficient, and future‑ready asset programmes.
Your new role
As Head of Asset Management, you will oversee the full lifecycle of the estates, properties, vehicles, equipment, and supporting infrastructure. Your leadership ensures that the team have reliable,pliant, and resilient assets to deliver their critical services. You will also drive the long‑term estates strategy to ensure the property portfolio meets current and future operational needs.
1. Strategic Leadership &ernance
1. Lead the organisation’s Asset Management Strategy across estates, fleet, equipment, workshops, and stores.
2. Provide senior-level advice on long‑term planning,pliance, risk, and capital investment priorities.
3. Ensure asset planning aligns with organisational risk assessments and strategic objectives.
4. Develop asseternance frameworks, policies, and performance standards.
5. Represent Asset Management at senior boards, capital programme groups, and relevant working groups.
2. Estates & Facilities Management
6. Lead the management of all premises across the organisation, including operational sites, offices, workshops, and training facilities.
7. Ensure statutorypliance including fire safety, health and safety, building regulations, and environmental standards.
8. Oversee planned and reactive maintenance, facilities contracts, andpliance monitoring.
9. Lead capital development projects, including refurbishments, sustainability programmes, and site rationalisation.
10. Drive estate modernisation to support operational needs, staff welfare, and inclusive design.
11. Key focus: Deliver and oversee a major £10m new‑build capital project from planning through topletion.
3. Fleet & Operational Equipment
12. Provide strategic leadership for fleet, ensuring the safety, availability, andpliance of all vehicles.
13. Oversee fleet lifecycle planning, procurement, maintenance standards, and engineering functions.
14. Lead equipment strategy including procurement, testing,pliance, and replacement cycles.
15. Oversee workshops and technical teams delivering high‑quality, accredited maintenance.
16. Promote innovation including EV transition, telemetry, digital asset tracking, and smart‑building technologies.
4. Finance, Procurement & Resources
17. Lead capital and revenue budgets across estates, fleet, workshops, and equipment.
18. Prepare business cases and capital investment proposals.
19. Oversee procurement aligned to relevant regulations and framework agreements.
20. Ensure contracts deliver value for money, resilience, and high-quality services.
5. Performance, Risk & Assurance
21. Maintainpliance with all health & safety, fire safety, environmental, PPE, and roadworthiness standards.
22. Develop KPIs for asset availability, maintenance performance, and cost efficiency.
23. Ensure robust business continuity arrangements for asset failures and major incidents.
What you'll need to succeed
24. Senior experience in asset management, estates, facilities, or infrastructure leadership.
25. Proven track record delivering capital programmes— ranging from £1-2m refurbishments to multi‑million‑pound new build projects.
26. Strong understanding ofpliance within estates, fleet, and equipment environments.
27. Excellent leadership, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
28. Ability to operate confidently at senior executive level in a fast‑paced, risk‑sensitive environment.
What you'll get in return
This is a 6-month contract that may be extended with a day rate up to £550 per day. We expect this position will be inside IR35.
