The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist to lead our main laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day laboratory operations (processing, embedding, microtomy, staining)
* Ensure compliance with UKAS (ISO 15189), CQC, and internal standards
* Monitor and drive turnaround times and KPIs
* Supervise, train, and develop staff
* Lead on quality management, audits, and non-conformances
* Support validation, verification, and continuous improvement.
Person Specification
Essential:
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
* IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology (or equivalent)
* Minimum 1-year post-specialist experience in a histopathology laboratory
* Strong knowledge of ISO 15189 / UKAS requirements
* Proven leadership or supervisory experience
* Ability to work in a high-throughput environment
Desirable:
* Experience in private or high-volume laboratories
* Involvement in UKAS inspections/accreditation
* Experience in service development or workflow optimisation
