The role

About the role:

As an online Learning Support Assistant, you will provide online assistance our teachers and faculty staff to support students who requires additional learning support and to ensure learners with SEND/learning support needs have access to the learning materials and resources to enable them to achieve their ultimate goals throughout their learning journey.

Our Learning Support Assistants make a difference in the lives of our students with SEN by enabling them to reach their full educational potential. Our tailored pathway programmes, including GCSEs, functional skills, access and distance learning, ensure that all students can overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Learning Support Assistants act as role models, adopting our learning philosophy, values and learning techniques to enable our students to progress throughout their course.

This is a causal contract, working hybrid/remote, starting September 2026. The role may require you to work weekends and evenings depending on the learner needs, so flexibility around working hours is essential.

What do you need to be a successful Online Student Support Assistant at Activate Learning?

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with tutors and colleagues to support the successful delivery of further education programmes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and confidence in using a range of digital platforms and systems.
  • Access to a personal IT device is preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing positively as part of a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond to changing priorities and learner needs.
  • A creative and innovative approach to engaging and motivating learners and providing effective support.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or supporting learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN) would be advantageous but is not essential.
