Senior Social Worker – Ipswich North East Social Care Team
Location: Beacon House, Ipswich
Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office)
Rate: £37.00 – £40.50 per hour
About the Role
Suffolk County Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join the Ipswich North East Social Care Team. This is a key role within the service, supporting children, young people, and families through high‑quality assessments and effective safeguarding interventions.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will also play an essential role in supporting the Team Manager with staff supervision, case oversight, and practice development—so previous supervisory experience is required.
The role operates on a hybrid working model, with three days per week based in the office at Beacon House, providing structured support and collaboration with the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake statutory assessments under Section 17 (Child in Need) and Section 47 (Child Protection).
* Contribute to and lead on Child in Need (CIN) plans and Child Protection (CP) planning.
* Provide supervision, support, and oversight to social work staff as delegated by the Team Manager.
* Offer guidance on complex cases and contribute to quality assurance of practice.
* Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to ensure positive outcomes for children and families.
* Maintain robust and timely case recording, meeting statutory timescales and service standards.
Skills
* Qualified Social Worker
* Registration with Social Work England
* Strong background in statutory children’s services
* Proven experience in supervision or senior-level responsibilities
* Excellent assessment, safeguarding, and report‑writing skills
* Ability to work within a fast‑paced, supportive team environment
