Work Based Learning Manager - Motor Vehicle and Land Based Engineering

BACKGROUND TO THE POST
Warwickshire College has an excellent reputation for vocational education and training for work-based Apprenticeships. The Work Based Learning Academy is a large and varied curriculum area offering a wide range of subjects and disciplines, including apprenticeships, work based learning qualifications, management training and professional accreditations. The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of apprentices.
We are now seeking a motivated and organised individual who can liaise with both employers and learners to assess their competencies within the workplace. This post will be based at our Warwick Trident College Site.
The department provides training and assessment for apprenticeships, workplace assessments, for industry related qualifications and Apprenticeship Standards. The post holder will join the existing Motor Vehicle and Land Based Engineering team and to work with the Head of Work Based Learning to provide employers with the necessary support to employ apprentices, and to continue to support the apprentices in the work placements.
To carry out Health and Safety checks and Risk Assessments. To visit students and Apprentices in work settings to carry out reviews, Assess, Train and offer support, to liaise with Employers. To provide a point of contact for employers and other agencies as necessary. To be responsible for producing and updating data relating to Work Based Learning and Apprenticeships, and for carrying out any necessary administrative tasks related to their caseload of employers and apprentices.
JOB PURPOSE
· Be the single point of contact and main liaison between the employer, the apprentices and the college.
· Ensure that the duty of care for the apprentice is always maintained.
· Support, mentor and guide the apprentice during their apprenticeship.
· Complete in a timely manner apprentice reviews and ensure feedback and actions are communicated to all relevant parties.
· Conduct Employer Premises Compliance visits and subsequent monitoring visits to ensure all matters in relation to Health and Safety and insurance are in place.
· Provide close support and guidance to existing and new employers in relation to apprenticeship framework information and guidance.
· Work closely with the curriculum team to monitor apprentice progress against their assessment plan.
· Carry out assessment to national, college and awarding body standards and to support the apprentice to achieve their NVQ qualification where required.
· Attend marketing events at college or at other venues as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist, guide and support students following their initial enquiry and interview to choose the right course of study.
· Work with the Curriculum team and Training agencies to help coordinate the placing and visiting of students in work placement or employment positions with local engineering companies.
· Work with managing agents to ensure that students are placed in a safe and suitable work situation where work based training can be clearly identified.
· Attend careers events, liaise with schools and work with managing agents to promote recruitment for all engineering courses.
· Work with the Marketing teams, Curriculum Director and Curriculum teams to ensure that all existing and new courses are marketed and promoted in the best interests of the College.
· Represent the Curriculum Director and teaching teams in promotional activities and provide student statistics for Senior Management.
· Support industry by setting up and promoting bespoke training to meet industry needs when required.
· Mentor individual candidates and monitor their academic and vocational progress. Liaise with company and other assessors to ensure that each candidate has the range of opportunities required for their competence assessment.
· Carry out formal NVQ assessments.
· Monitor the quality of training delivered by all training sub-contractors.
· Carry out formal verification of assessments.
· Carry out formal progress reviews with individuals and their employers.
· To attend college delivered 'Teaching Essentials' training
In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.

LEAVE ENTITLEMENT
The College offers a generous leave entitlement to support staff, of 38 days leave (includes 25 days leave, 8 statutory Bank Holidays, 4 College closure days at Christmas and an annual Relaxed Day) pro rata for part time. This will rise to 41 days after 5 years' service.
HOURS OF WORK
The post holder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities, normally 37 hours per week.
PLACE OF WORK
The principal place of work will be the College's premises based at our Warwick Trident College. However, the post holder may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises at which we may provide services.

Essential Attainments:
* NVQ Level 3 within an Automotive Engineering related discipline or equivalent Apprenticeship route within this discipline.
* Assessor's Award or equivalent. Applicant willing to achieve within the first 9 months will be considered.
* GCSE Grade A-C in English and Maths or equivalent. Applicants willing to achieve within the first 9 months will be considered.
* Evidence of formal structured training in a relevant vocational area.
* Extensive industrial experience within the vocational area.
* Have a working knowledge of Health & Safety in the appropriate vocation.
* Possess a wide technical knowledge in the vocational area.
* Experience of liaising and negotiating with industrial partners.
* Current experience or assessor activity in Automotive Engineering, Motor Vehicle or related disciplines.
* Vocational experience of working in a related industry and dealing with customers in a professional capacity.
* A willingness to undertake professional development to address specific vocational skill requirements.
* A UK driving licence free of major endorsements.
