Job Description:
At ecobirmingham, we believe that food is at the heart of community, wellbeing, and environmental change. We're looking for motivated individuals to support our work in helping people across Birmingham eat well, grow their own food, and live more sustainably.
Healthy & Planet-Friendly Cooking
We run engaging workshops and events that teach practical cooking skills for all ages—from curious kids to busy parents and older adults. Our focus is on:
Cooking affordable, nutritious meals using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients
Reducing food waste and making the most of what’s in the cupboard
Exploring plant-based and low-impact diets that are good for people and the planet
Creating fun, hands-on experiences that build confidence in the kitchen
Whether you're a home cook, nutrition enthusiast, or just love sharing recipes and tips, your skills could make a real difference in someone’s life.
Food Growing & Gardening
We support communities to reconnect with where their food comes from. You could help with:
Teaching people how to grow herbs, vegetables, and fruits in small spaces
Supporting community gardens and food-growing projects
Encouraging biodiversity and sustainable gardening practices
What We’re Looking For:
A passion for sustainability, food, and community wellbeing
Experience or interest in cooking, nutrition, gardening, or environmental advice
A friendly, inclusive approach and willingness to learn
People from all backgrounds—diverse voices make our work stronger
Experience and Qualities needed:
We’re looking for people who bring both passion and practical know-how:
You have relevant professional experience and/or qualifications in your area of expertise (e.g. cooking, gardening, energy advice, sustainability, or community engagement)
A qualification in cooking is essential for those supporting our food and healthy eating programmes
You work well as part of a team but are also confident carrying out individual tasks
You’re passionate about helping people and organisations improve their sustainability
You may have a background or interest in teaching, training, environmental sustainability, or community work
