We're seeking a hands-on technical leader to join us as Digital Operational Communications Lead. This pivotal role combines deep technical expertise with team leadership, mentoring, and a drive for continuous improvement.
You'll play a vital role in managing the operational support, monitoring, and development of our mobilisation, telephony, radio, and control room systems. Alongside delivering hands-on engineering support, you'll lead and mentor a skilled team, fostering collaboration, adaptability, and professional growth. Your leadership will ensure that our communication services remain robust, reliable, and future-ready.
What you'll be doing
1. Lead, mentor, and inspire the Operational Comms team, creating a customer-first, solutions-driven culture.
2. Provide hands-on support across mobilisation, telephony, radio, and control systems.
3. Oversee incidents, service requests, and change management in line with ITIL best practice.
4. Manage lifecycle, capacity, and performance of critical comms systems.
5. Drive innovation through new technologies and process improvements.
6. Collaborate with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders on resilient solutions.
7. Deputise for the Operational Comms Manager and take part in a 24/7 on-call rota.
What we're looking for
8. HND in Digital Technology or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent experience).
9. ITIL V4: Foundation certification or higher.
10. Strong leadership and mentoring experience in technical teams.

13. ESN
14. Control room & mobilising systems
15. VHF/UHF radio systems
16. Telephony systems
17. Experience in emergency services, ideally supporting Fire Service mobilisation systems.
