Mechanical Supervisor (Plumbing) – Location: HMP Chelmsford, 200 Springfield RD CM26LQ
Salary: £45,303.07
Contract: Full time/Permanent
Are you an accomplished Plumber with experience managing or leading teams from a Facilities, Forces or Healthcare background looking for your next challenge? We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Supervisor to join our team at HMP Chelmsford, a Category B & Adult/male prison.
Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate a team of trades including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators to maintain the facility’s mechanical systems and services.
* Work to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of heating, ventilation, water, and building service systems within a secure environment.
* Collaborate with facilities maintenance colleagues to support the day-to-day running of HMP Chelmsford and contribute to rehabilitation and public safety objectives.
* Apply risk-aware planning and project management skills to maintenance activities and small works projects.
Qualifications & Experience
* One or more of the following qualifications:
o C&G 6189 Plumbing and domestic heating
o C&G 5962 Certificate in Plumbing (Advanced Craft)
o C&G 6019 Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing)
o C&G 6018 Heating and Ventilation Installation
o C&G 6129 Certificate in Plumbing
o C&G 214 Engineering Systems Maintenance
o C&G 6188 Heating and Ventilating
o C&G 6088 Certificate in Heating and Ventilating
o C&G 6032 Advanced Craft Certificate in Plumbing
o EAL Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
* A minimum of five years’ experience, ideally within FM and/or secure environments (military, health or similar sectors).
* Experience working on commercial or industrial heating, water, or building service systems.
* Familiar with Water Supply Regulations and Legionella L8 requirements; able to work to these standards.
* Good health & safety knowledge.
* Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
* Strong risk, compliance, planning and project management capabilities.
