Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Motor Vehicle Technician to join our team at Totton College. The role involves general technical and clerical assistance to the motor vehicle curriculum areas, ensuring smooth running by ordering stock, setting up classrooms and practical activities, fixing equipment where possible, and maintaining tools in good condition. The successful candidate will be passionate about helping young people learn and achieve, compassionate in their approach, and able to work with students who may have faced barriers to education. Flexibility and teamwork are essential.
Responsibilities
* Confirm material stock is checked, catalogued, maintained and stored appropriately
* Dispose of waste appropriately
* Manage, monitor and record the disposal and repair of faulty equipment
* Manage and maintain health & safety across the department, including risk assessment and COSHH data
* Liaise with suppliers to encourage competitiveness and secure contracts
* Monitor safety by ensuring students follow correct procedures and best practices
* Create and maintain task and risk assessments for safer operating procedures in the workshop
* Order and control the issue of PPE
* Maintain and manage general housekeeping, ensuring cleanliness of all facilities within the motor vehicle department
* Provide hands‑on support during practical lessons under the direction of lecturers or instructors
* Demonstrate correct use of tools, equipment and workshop processes when appropriate
Requirements
* English and Maths at GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent Level 2
* Experience working with young people with anxiety, ASD/ASHD
* Relevant industry experience and strong subject knowledge
* Good organisational skills
* Experience in a technical position within the motor vehicle industry
* IT literate (experience with Microsoft Office and Excel)
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
* Flexibility in working hours
* Experience dealing with suppliers
* Relevant education experience
