Job Title: Mid-Level Web Designer & Developer (UI/UX Focus)
We are a small, growing IT consultancy delivering web, cloud and digital solutions to SMEs across the UK. We pride ourselves on building strong client relationships and delivering high-quality, practical solutions without unnecessary complexity.
We're now looking for a technically strong mid-level Web Designer & Developer with UI/UX focus to join us and who can own projects end-to-end from Figma designs through to fully deployed WordPress builds.
This is a hands-on, varied role combining:
* Web design
* Custom Wordpress development
* Front-end and back-end development (HTML, CSS, Javacript, React)
* UI/UX design (Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Graphics design)
* Performance and optimisation work
* Client collaboration
You'll be engaging directly with clients, so strong communication skills are essential. You must be confident discussing technical decisions and translating requirements into practical solutions. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys autonomy, variety, and meaningful ownership of projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop responsive websites from concept to launch
* Translate client requirements into wireframes, mock-ups and functional websites
* Deliver intuitive UI and thoughtful UX across desktop and mobile
* Ensure websites are fully responsive and cross-browser compatible
* Convert Figma designs into responsive, production-ready front-end code
* Build and customise WordPress themes (custom themes preferred over page builders)
* Develop reusable components and templates
* Implement custom functionality using JavaScript and PHP
* Optimise websites for performance, accessibility and SEO
* Manage staging and live environments
* Maintain and improve existing client sites
* Contribute ideas to improve internal processes and service offerings
Required Skills & Experience
* 3–5 years' experience in web design and development
* Strong HTML5 and modern CSS (Flexbox, Grid, responsive design)
* Strong JavaScript (ES6+), including DOM manipulation and API integration
* Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g. React, Vue, etc.)
* Experience with CMS platforms (e.g. WordPress or similar)
* Solid understanding of responsive design principles
* Experience creating wireframes and prototypes (e.g. Figma, Adobe XD)
* Solid WordPress development experience:

o Custom theme development

o Template hierarchy

o Hooks & filters
*
o Advanced Custom Fields (or similar)
*
o Creating custom post types
* Confident using Figma for:

o Wireframes
*
o High-fidelity UI design
*
o Prototyping
* Experience working with Git
* Understanding of web performance best practices
* Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals
* Good understanding of UI/UX best practices
* Ability to manage projects independently
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable (But Not Essential)
* Experience with back-end technologies (e.g., PHP)
* Experience working in a consultancy or agency environment
* Familiarity with hosting environments and deployment workflows
* Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG)
* Understanding of GIS use-cases & applications
