The Role

UKAEA is looking for a talented Electronic Engineer to bring their expertise to a range of innovative projects and programmes at UKAEA.

In this hands-on, on-site role, you’ll be actively involved in the full lifecycle of electronic systems — from design and development to build, test, commissioning, and maintenance. You'll work on electronic cards, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and control & instrumentation systems that play a key role in advancing our mission.

Be part of a team shaping the future of energy and apply your skills where they truly make an impact. We're looking for someone with strong organisational and time management abilities, excellent electronics design expertise including mixed signal design, and confident interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. If you're ready to contribute to world-leading innovation, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Accountabilities:

* Lead and deliver small to medium work packages and technical studies, collaborating with engineers and technicians to design, install, and commission electronic systems.

* Apply expert knowledge of UKAEA’s TCS to drive projects through technical controls by capturing requirements, developing designs, and leading design reviews.

* Provide fast on-plant technical support for programmes like MAST-U, including advising and overseeing build, test, evaluation, and repair of electronics modules and sub-assemblies.

* Perform routine plant maintenance, commissioning, and testing, ensuring adherence to UKAEA safety, quality, and technical procedures, with competence in LV testing.

* Generate schematics and PCB layouts using Proteus, utilize modelling tools (PSIM, MATLAB, Simulink, LTSpice), and prepare work control documentation while supervising electricians, fitters, and technicians.

Qualifications

Essential:

* An honours degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline and demonstrable post graduate experience in an electrical/electronic engineering role. Or an HND in an Electrical/Electronic discipline, or equivalent qualification level, with significant industrial experience.
* Able to work effectively both independently and within a team, adapting to diverse tasks while applying technical expertise to solve problems.Being flexible and able to work across teams and the business where necessary.
* Embedded programming experience
* Experienced in using EDA software for schematic and PCB design, as well as performing work following safety protocols such as risk assessments, method statements, and formal permit systems, particularly for low and high voltage testing.

Desirable:

* Demonstrated success in working with a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic research environment.
* Some experience in supervising others.
* HDL design and test
