STM is seeking an experienced Manager / Director of Communications & Marketing to shape and deliver our communications strategy, strengthen our reputation, and amplify our impact across the research ecosystem.
This is a strategic but practical senior executive role within a small collaborative team. You’ll be responsible for setting direction while also taking a direct role in implementation, ensuring that our communications are effective, timely, and aligned with STM’s mission.
Responsibilities
 * Drive STM’s external communications and media engagement, acting as spokesperson when needed.
 * Lead strategy and messaging for our major international conferences and member events.
 * Oversee content strategy across digital channels, publications, and campaigns — ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with STM’s mission.
 * Partner with the CEO, senior leadership, and our external agency to manage high-profile communications, including crisis response and thought leadership.
Qualifications
 * 7+ years’ experience in communications, PR, media or public affairs (ideally in publishing, research, or a membership organisation).
 * A strategic thinker with strong planning, writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
 * Familiarity with digital communication tools, content management systems (e.g. WordPress), design and asset creation platforms (e.g. Canva), and performance metrics.
 * Proven ability to manage complex projects and media relations, with calm judgement under pressure.
 * Experience working with or managing external agencies.
