Job Description
Co-ordinate designated study programme delivery activities for the College, including high quality teaching, day-to-day operational issues, exams and time-tabling. Ensure a consistent approach across sites if required. Inspire and motivate students through outstanding teaching that stretches and challenges them to reach their best.
Lecturers should be passionate about teaching English, Maths and employability skills, be enthusiastic about developing their students, and uphold regular target setting and progress monitoring to achieve successful outcomes.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
* Deliver high-quality teaching in accordance with college standards and validating bodies; prepare teaching materials, schemes of work, lesson plans, and revised curriculum.
* Undertake quality assurance in collaboration with the Head of Department, assess student work, monitor and report progress, and maintain Individual Learning Plans.
* Maintain good order in the teaching environment, ensuring safeguarding, equal opportunities and health & safety compliance.
* Manage day‑to‑day course duties: communication, problem solving, diagnostic compliance, timetable checks, amendments, cover at short notice, planning and coordinating work experience and enrichment activities.
* Coordinate internal verification scheduling and liaise with departments such as Exams, MIS, ALS.
* Assist with recruitment and selection of suitable candidates and manage enrolment procedures, qualifications on entry, transfers and late enrollments.
* Provide induction programmes for students.
* Conduct regular one‑to‑one meetings with students to set and review SMART targets, support UCAS references, pastoral needs, and academic guidance.
* Monitor student attendance and results, preparing performance monitoring reports and action plans where required.
* Promote and support English and Maths provision, both in class and one‑to‑one, monitoring attendance and movement to lessons.
* Attend meetings, parent evenings, marketing events, courses and departmental meetings as directed.
* Collaborate with colleagues on course development, training methods, materials, and participate in CPD events, focus days, peer observation, and mentoring new lecturers.
* Assist departmental administration, marking registers, updating Pro‑Monitor, producing reports on attendance, retention, achievement, and VLE content.
* Participate in college meetings, verification, moderation, course reviews and Self‑Assessment Reviews (SAR).
* Undertake internal verification, moderation, standardisation procedures for agreed curriculum/course(s).
* Coordinate and monitor action plans arising from SAR, observations, and quality review weeks.
* Support the Head and Deputy Head of Department with curriculum and quality issues.
* Ensure timely completion of UCAS references and liaise with higher education institutions as needed.
