Fabricator/Welder

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled, reliable Fabricator / Welder to join our client's manufacturing team. The successful candidate will fabricate, weld, assemble, and finish structural and sheet metal components for their range of machines (balers, compactors, crushers, etc.). You will work to engineering drawings, adhere to quality and safety standards, and collaborate closely with design, production, and maintenance teams to deliver high-quality finished products.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and specifications
Prepare, cut, shape, and form steel, stainless steel, and other metals
Perform manual and semi-automatic welding (e.g. MIG, TIG, MMA) to join metal parts
Butt welds, fillet welds, plug welds, etc., as specified
Grind, dress, finish, bevel, and clean welded joints and surfaces
Fit and assemble structural components, sub-assemblies, frames, and panels
Carry out jigging, aligning, and fixturing of parts to ensure proper fit and tolerance
Perform quality inspections on welds (visual, measurement, dimensional checks)
Work to tolerances and ensure parts meet tolerancing and weld quality standards
Assist with layout, marking out, and material preparation
Liaise with engineers or production planners about modifications or adjustments
Maintain equipment, tools, and welding machinery (cleaning, minor repairs, calibration)
Follow all health & safety, housekeeping, and quality procedures
Support continuous improvement initiatives and suggest process improvementsRequired Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a welder / fabricator in a manufacturing or engineering environment
Ability to weld using MIG, TIG, MMA (or equivalent)
Strong metal-fabrication skills (cutting, bending, grinding, drilling, fitting)
Good interpretation of engineering/fabrication drawings, weld symbols, dimensions
Attention to detail, high quality finish, strong work ethic
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good communication skills (to liaise with other departments)
Basic knowledge of welding quality standards, safety protocols, and metallurgy
Physically fit and capable of handling heavy components, working in variable positionsDesirable (but not essential)
Ideally qualifications or certification in welding, fabrication or metal trade (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds, welding certificates)
Experience working with heavy machinery, large steel structures, or bespoke builds
Experience in waste equipment, balers, compactors, materials handling machineryWorking Conditions
The role will be based in a workshop/factory environment
Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and heavy materials
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including welding helmet, gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing
Standard shift hours totalling 47.5 hours per week
Occasional overtime may be required depending on project deadlinesWhat You'll Get
