Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is a leading co-educational independent boarding school with a strong academic profile, excellent pastoral care, and state-of-the-art facilities. It employs approximately 550 staff and caters to 830 pupils aged 13-18.
The estate covers 125 acres, including sports fields, gardens, and numerous buildings, some of which are listed. The school has an ambitious infrastructure strategy to improve its estate.
The Estates team, comprising about 40 staff, is responsible for maintenance, grounds, gardens, compliance, porterage, and security. The school is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Job Purpose
To maintain the sports grounds and pitches, ensuring they are safe, functional, and visually appealing for sports activities. Tasks include mowing, fertilising, aerating, irrigating, turf repair, and artificial pitch maintenance.
Your Accountabilities
* Maintain sports fields to high standards, ensuring safety and functionality.
* Perform tasks such as mowing, fertilising, aerating, and turf repairs.
* Manage equipment and scheduled maintenance activities.
* Coordinate with staff and stakeholders for field usage.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
* Desirable: PA1, PA2, and PA6 spraying certificates.
* Desirable: NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf or similar qualification.
* Experience in sports grounds maintenance.
* Skills in mowing, aeration, fertilising, and weed control.
* Ability to operate machinery and equipment.
* Experience in setting out and marking pitches.
* Full clean driving licence required; insurance conditions apply.
