Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Engineer to join the Medical Device Service at Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. Based at Rochdale Infirmary, this is a Trust‑wide role requiring work across multiple NCA sites and community services. You will be part of a multi‑professional Medical Devices Team delivering engineering, governance, and training support across various care settings.
Responsibilities
* Carry out routine maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment.
* Investigate and repair medical equipment reported as faulty.
* Update evidence of work done on an equipment database.
* Drive to community sites to collect, deliver, service, and repair medical equipment.
* Assist with commissioning of new medical equipment, including testing and configuring new equipment before it is released for clinical use.
* Support users of medical equipment by providing specialist advice in clinical use and application.
* Assist in the management of risk associated with medical devices, including involvement in training, investigations, testing, and repair of medical equipment, and act as interface between users and outside agencies/suppliers.
* Work in a team to achieve the goal of providing high‑quality, agile and flexible service that best serves our service users.
* Support senior engineers in investigations on medical equipment and devices reported as adverse incidents or requiring supplier recall action.
* Liaise with external suppliers of medical equipment.
* Work within organisational policies and local procedures.
* Regularly update your knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
* Full UK Driving Licence (mandatory).
* Electronic Engineering Degree or minimum HNC in electronics or a clinical engineering qualification.
Knowledge
* Specialist knowledge in the application and use of a wide range of medical equipment.
* Knowledge and experience of current legislation and recommendations for the management of medical equipment.
* Wide range of supplier‑approved training on servicing and repair of medical equipment.
Registration
* Register as a clinical technologist (RCT).
Experience
* Experience in electronics maintenance and repair in a workshop environment.
* Experience working with suppliers to resolve and manage clinical risk with medical devices.
* Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment.
