Senior Quantity Surveyor Department / Location: Enisca Brown East and West (based in Cookstown or Ilkeston) Job purpose To lead the commercial management of projects from contract award to completion. The Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the commercial success of projects by taking full ownership from tender handover through to final account, driving cost awareness, managing budgets and safeguarding financial performance across multiple projects. Job responsibilities Project ownership Take full commercial responsibility for multiple projects, ensuring smooth transition from tender handover through to final account settlement. Act as the key commercial contact for project teams, providing guidance and oversight to ensure contractual and financial obligations are met. Budget management and cost awareness Establish, monitor and control project budgets, ensuring accurate allocation of costs and resources. Drive cost awareness across operations teams, embedding a culture of financial accountability and value engineering. Identify risks and opportunities early, implementing corrective measures to safeguard profitability. Cashflow and sales forecasting Prepare and maintain detailed cashflow forecasts to support business planning and project delivery. Provide accurate sales forecasts, ensuring alignment with company targets and financial reporting requirements. Monthly payments and certification Manage the preparation and submission of monthly payment applications to clients. Oversee certification processes, ensuring timely approval and receipt of payments. Assess subcontractor applications and raise certificates in line with contractual obligations. Cost / value reporting Produce regular cost / value reconciliations, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions. Present clear and concise reports to senior management to enable informed decision-making. Subcontract procurement and documentation Lead the procurement of subcontract packages, ensuring competitive tendering and value for money. Prepare, negotiate and finalise subcontract agreements, ensuring compliance with company standards and legal requirements. Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors to support effective project delivery. Contract administration Review, negotiate and manage contract and subcontract terms and conditions. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, mitigating risks and resolving disputes where necessary. Meetings and collaboration Attend and actively contribute to internal and external meetings, representing the commercial function. Collaborate with project managers, site teams and other departments to ensure alignment of objectives and smooth project execution. Safety and compliance Promote and enforce safe working practices within the commercial function. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards and statutory requirements. Mentorship and team development Provide guidance, training and mentorship to junior commercial staff and project delivery teams. Support career development by sharing expertise, encouraging best practice and fostering a collaborative environment. Cross-department liaison Work closely with operations, finance, procurement, design and other departments to ensure integrated project delivery. Provide commercial input to support strategic initiatives and business improvement projects. Additional duties Undertake any other responsibilities appropriate to the role, supporting the wider business as required. Adapt to evolving project and business needs, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to organisational success. The post holder is expected to carry out other duties from time to time which are broadly consistent with those described. Additional information There may be occasions where the post holder is required to work outside standard hours. The post holder will be required to work across the company and attend external meetings; occasional travel will be required. Driving licence required. Person attributes Knowledge and skills required Ability to work autonomously to tight deadlines. Proficient IT skills, with strong working knowledge of Excel and Word as a minimum. Effective communication skills, including the ability to give presentations and reports to all levels, including external stakeholders. Strong commercial acumen, including demonstrable experience in preparation of detailed cost reports and forecasts. Strong negotiation skills. Proficient in the management and administration of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts. Water industry MEICA experience preferred but not essential. Experience required Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role. Essential qualifications Degree-qualified in a relevant subject. Desirable qualifications N/A.
