A well-established, family-run SME within the retail sector is looking to appoint a hands-on Finance Manager / Company Accountant to support its growing operations. Based in Erdington, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a stable, close-knit business where you can take real ownership of the day-to-day finance function.
Your new role
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will play a key role in managing the day-to-day finances of one arm of the business, allowing senior leadership to focus on strategic is a varied and practical role, ideal for someone who enjoys working in an SME environment and being involved across all aspects of finance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production of monthly management accounts with analysis
2. Full responsibility for A-Z accounts
3. VAT returns and HMRC compliance
4. Overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping activities
5. Managing sales and purchase ledger
6. Processing payment runs and managing cash flow
7. Bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
8. Payroll processing (in-house)
9. Supporting budgeting and forecasting
10. Stock and inventory accounting
11. Credit control and aged debt management
12. Supporting year-end processes and liaising with external accountants
13. Ensuring financial controls and processes are maintained and improved
What you'll need to succeed
14. Experience in a similar Finance Manager / Company Accountant role
15. Strong all-round accounting knowledge (AAT / part-qualified / QBE considered)
16. Comfortable working in a hands-on SME environment
17. Experience with VAT, payroll, and management accounts
18. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
19. Confident communicator who can work closely with senior stakeholders
